My 4th A1 Entry at the HSF Bergisch Land, October 2003

This sunday two "figures" arose from the bed at 5.00 am. Though Master came to the trial with us, we went to our trainer at 6.00 am to follow her and her husband again. When we arrived at the hosting club at 7.00 am Smokey and his Master had already been there since 6.30 am. For that achievement they were awarded the "Early Bird" prize at the winners honoring.

Since it was very cold that morning we held council if the tents should be erected at all. Soon it was decided to build the tent for Smokey (Medley and her Mistress had stayed home. Were they lucky...), so that we would not have to stay in the car the whole time. It would not have been warmer there anyway. We did not stay in the tent often because the dogs were allowed inside of the clubs bar, where it was really cozy.

It did not take long and it was our turn. Mistress put me in front of the first obstacle and waited for the start signal of the judge. I took my head out of the collar and Mistress positioned herself between jumps one and two. My starting signal followed suit.

When I had taken the first 3 jumps in quick succession, hopped over the fourth and took aim for the long jump Mistress was far behind me. She wanted to run left past the long jump to make my right turn easier. I had to go towards the wall.

I aimed for the jump to the left of the wall that belonged to the last part of the course. Mistress stopped dead in her tracks and screamed "Niiiikita". I heard her, turned slightly and took jump number 15! I had just landed when I heard the judge whistle. I ran to Mistress and snaked around her wildly. Only when Mistress gave me a stare that made my blood freeze I got my senses back.

We finished the course and I took the way she showed me. I jumped over the contact zones at the a-frame despite her "eeeehhhhhyyyy ... Tack". I could feel her eyes in my neck and decided it would be better to lay down on the dog walk. Mistress petted my head and I was allowed to go on. Only the tunnel and one jump were left.

I slowly realize what the whistle is. We heard it three more times that day. Mistress said we would not start for a while because I had been so crazy the last two trials.

She can´t fool me! As if I did not know that it was winter break.?! Well the next season will come and we will exercise a lot. We don´t want any more steering accidents caused by speeding that will disqualify us ... ;-).
