Disc Protrusion
This is no "veterinary statement" I only tell you how we understood it...

The spine consists of vertebras (bones) and the vertebral discs (elastic discs). The discs are made up from a hard ring with a soft core. The vertebras are held apart by the discs (bone-disc-and so on)

With healthy discs the soft core is situated in the middle of the ring. With a disc protrusion the core is not in the middle anymore but has moved. The outer ring is still whole but stretches with the pressure of the core. The disc can now put pressure on the spinal marrow and cause pain.

 Simplified picture (for better understanding)

 1. Vertebral disc with core in the middle
 2. Vertebral disc with moved core,
the outer ring is whole but gives way to the pressure.

A disc protrusion is not a slipped disc. A disc protrusion can be seen as a prelude to a slipped disc.
